Barye Philips (1924-1969) was an American painter and illustrator of pulp magazines and paperbacks. Phillips was also active as a painter and sculptor.
He illustrated training booklets and propaganda during World War II. Phillips began painting paperback covers around 1943 and was very prolific throughout the 1940s, 1950s and 1960s, earning the nickname “The King of Paperbacks”.

There are not many bondage artworks, however the Damsel in Distress was a theme Philips did illustrate, as well as powerful woman.
